What can YOU do to help support your sixth grader this year?
ACADEMIC:
Look at the student planner to be sure your 6th grader is writing down assignments. We write in this EVERYDAY! No blank spaces should be next to SCIENCE at the end of the school day. If you see a blank space, know you can double check what is going on in our class by going to our "assignments" tab which is updated and posted online.
Graphic organizers: These websites have a variety of graphic organizers that students can use to organize their writing.

EMOTIONAL:
Show interest in what is going on at school. Ask your son/daughter what activities they are participating in or enjoying at school.
Encourage your son/daughter to put their best foot forward each day, no matter what has happened in the past. This will help them have their "BEST YEAR EVER," a theme we have running throughout the entire school year.
8 things every kid needs to hear . . .
1. I love you.
2. I'm proud of you.
3. I'm sorry.
4. I forgive you.
5. Please forgive me.
6. I'm listening.
7. This is your responsibility.
8. You've got what it takes.
PHYSICAL:
Be sure to send your child to school with adequate supplies so their teacher can help them be successful!
We encourage students to bring the following "HIGH 5!" materials, each day:
1. BINDER (1 tab labeled SCIENCE; loose notebook paper in it) with a SPIRAL NOTEBOOK (100 pages or more)
2. 3 holed zippered PENCIL POUCH with 2 (or more) sharpened PENCILS, 1 blue or black ink pen, several different colored highlighters, 1 white board marker (inside an old sock to use as an eraser), and 1 glue stick (2 or 3 additional glue sticks should be safely tucked inside your school locker)
3. STUDENT PLANNER (DPS will provide this for you)
4. Leisure READING BOOK (Choose one you ENJOY! :)
5. A POSITIVE attitude!

GENERAL:
Contact your child's teacher if you ever have any questions or concerns.
We are always receptive to constructive feedback, especially if it is framed in a positive manner.
