August of 2021
Dear Parents and Students,
Please accept this letter of introduction from me, Mrs. Kari Roy, DeWitt Middle School science teacher. This year will be my 28th year teaching in a DeWitt Panther classroom (29th, overall)!!! I’m located in room 112, which has a dream set up for our science labs, and other activities! I am looking forward to meeting you and getting to know your sixth grader!
Please plan on tuning in to this year's virtual open house or "Back to School Night," scheduled for Thursday, September 9, from 6 - 7 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with teachers and open the lines of communication, an essential piece to a student's overall success. Your son/daughter is on a team with core teachers:
Becky Thelen (Math), Jessica Doepker (ELA), Linda Maxwell (Social Studies), and myself (Science).
I live in DeWitt with my husband and two children. I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Central Michigan in 1992, and a Master of Arts in Natural Science from Michigan State University in 1998. I continue to enjoy taking classes to collect new ideas that inspire and energize my students. I also enjoy hiking, gardening, traveling (usually camping), and attending DeWitt sporting events to see many of my current and former students participate.
Keep an eye out for any back-to-school flyer sales and easily obtainable materials already shared in class with students. If you have any difficulties locating items, know our team will help you get what you need during our first week of school.
I am thrilled to have an opportunity to work with you and your sixth grader during the upcoming school year. It's rewarding to be a part of a community who values and supports its educators. I realize that successful days at school begin at home and I appreciate your partnership. WELCOME!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kari Roy
